This is the graph I’ll present to you as evidence. There is one main financial crisis on this graph (2008), and that had little to no impact on the pace of change. I really don’t expect the pandemic to either, particularly considering those who are still able to be lifted out of poverty (primarily in Africa and rural China) don’t live in countries affected badly by the pandemic.

Certainly, this will be a more difficult few years than thought. But over the course of the decade, the direction of change will remain positive.
